Both types of tag link to the same live pet profile — your pet's name, photo, your contact number, address and medical notes. The difference is how the finder reads it. An NFC tag is read by tapping a phone against it (no camera, no alignment). A QR Code tag is read by pointing any phone camera at the printed square code. NFC is slightly faster and works from the iPhone lock screen; QR Code works on every phone including older models without NFC. We sell both — choose whichever you prefer.

NFC tags work with any iPhone 7 or later (iOS 11+) and virtually all Android phones released since 2015. On iPhone, the scan works directly from the lock screen — no need to unlock the phone first. QR Code tags work with any phone that has a camera — that means every smartphone made in the last 15 years, including older budget phones without NFC. Both types open the pet profile instantly in any browser.

The finder instantly sees your pet's full profile: a photo, name, breed, age, your phone number (with a one-tap call button), your address, and any important medical notes such as allergies or medication. You control every field — share as much or as little as you're comfortable with. Nothing is shown without your consent.

None whatsoever. You pay once when you order and your pet's profile stays active for life. We don't charge for profile updates, additional pets on the same account, or continued use of the NFC service. No renewals, no hidden costs — ever.

Orders are dispatched within 1–2 working days from our UK facility. Standard delivery typically arrives 2–3 working days after dispatch. Express next-day options are available at checkout. Free standard shipping applies on orders over £40.

Within 24 hours of purchase you can edit any field directly from your My Pets dashboard — changes go live instantly. After that window closes, click "Edit Profile" on your pet card and you'll see a Request Edit form instead. Describe the changes you need, submit the request, and we'll update your profile within 1 business day. The physical tag never needs to be replaced.

The 24-hour direct-edit window is there so you can fix any mistakes immediately after setup. After that period we review all changes manually — this protects every pet owner from unauthorised edits to their profile. Sending a request takes less than a minute and we action it within 1 business day.

A Self Register Tag is a personalised NFC pet tag you've already received — printed exactly as you chose, with an NFC chip pre-programmed with a unique code. Unlike ordering a new tag, the physical tag is already in your hands. All you need to do is visit our site, enter the unique code, fill in your pet's details, and the profile goes live. The whole process takes under two minutes.

Go to the "Have a Self Register Tag?" section on our homepage (or click the button in the hero). Enter the unique code printed on your tag or its packaging, fill in your pet's name, photo and your contact number, then hit Save. Your pet's profile is live immediately — anyone who scans your tag from that moment will see the full profile.

An account is created automatically when you enter your email address and password during the registration process. This lets you log back in at any time to update your pet's profile, add more pets, or manage your registered tags. If you already have a GetPetTag account, the new tag will be linked to your existing profile.

Yes. As soon as your profile is saved, you'll receive a welcome email with your login details and a direct link to your account. Your pet's profile is live instantly — no waiting, no approval process. You can log back in at any time to edit details, upload a new photo or add a second pet to the same account.

The self-register system works exclusively with tags that carry a GetPetTag unique code. Each code is pre-programmed by us and linked to our platform. Tags obtained elsewhere will not carry a compatible code and cannot be registered through our system.

Self-Register Tags are distributed to pet shops, market stalls, pop-up stands, and other retail outlets across the UK. You will recognise them by the GetPetTag branding on the packaging and a printed unique activation code inside. If you're unsure whether your local pet shop stocks them, check our website for a current list of stockists or contact us directly.

Each Self-Register Tag comes in a small card-backed package containing: the NFC disc itself (waterproof, ready to attach to a collar), a printed card showing your unique activation code, and a short URL directing you to the registration page. You do not need the packaging after activation, but keep the code card safe in case you ever need to contact support.

Absolutely. Self-Register Tags make excellent gifts precisely because the recipient activates it themselves — they enter their own contact details and upload their pet's photo. The tag is completely blank until registered, so there is nothing personal to fill in before gifting. Once the recipient activates it, the profile is entirely theirs to manage.

If you lose the code before activating the tag, contact our support team with proof of purchase (a receipt or photo of the packaging). We can look up the code assigned to your tag and send it to you. If the tag is already registered and active, you do not need the code again — just log in to your account to manage the profile.

Yes — identical hardware. Both use the same waterproof NFC disc, the same chip model, and the same secure platform. The only difference is the journey: online orders are pre-programmed and shipped directly to you, while Self-Register Tags are sold through retail partners and activated by the owner afterwards. Once registered, the two are indistinguishable.

Yes. If you already have a GetPetTag account — whether from a previous online order or a past Self-Register Tag — just log in before entering your new activation code. The new tag and its pet profile will be linked to your existing account automatically. You can manage all your pets and tags from a single My Pets dashboard.
